ZEE5 Bamfaad Review- Old Wine Served In New Bottle With A Worthwhile Climax To Look For

Bamfaad feels like an old wine in not so new bottle that fails as a love story on many levels. What is impressive in this sea of loopholes is Aditya Rawal’s debut as a bold and rebellious Allahbadi and Vijay Verma as an obsessive lover...

Bamfaad Poster

Cast:- Aditya Rawal, Shalini Pandey, Vijay Varma, and Jatin Sarna.

Director:- Ranjan Chandel

Set in Allahabad, Bamfaad is a story of Naseer and Neelam who are poles apart. Naseer (Aditya Rawal ) is a rebel. Naseer can be seen conducting a cheating scam in the exam, he creates ruckus to help his friends and is not apologetic about anything he does. Neelam (Shalini Pandey) is a calm and composed girl who knows how to deal with people like Naseer. The duo ends up falling in love with each other.

Their love affair does not go down well with Jigar (Vijay Varma) who owns Neelam as he says. How Jigar’s obsessive love for Neelam acts as a hurdle between Naseer and Neelam’s undying love for each other.

For those who do not know, Ranjan has been one of the writers of Mukkabaaz. Bamfaad opens up in a raw frame which is not beautiful to look at but closer to reality. The opening frame of the movie witnesses a hint of Anurag Kashyap’s direction. Right from the locations, to the dialect of the characters, to production design, to the references to the city in which it is set in is the detailing that deserves appreciation. But despite maintaining the roughness the story demands, Bamfaad fails to trigger the audience at the right places. A Muslim Boy falling for a Hindu girl can create enough explosion in the society we live in even today but that is not the case with Bamfaad.

A still from the movie

The 2- hour Muslim-Hindu love affair is not something new for the audience. The story is predictable and seems recycled. The film deserves credit for the surprise element in the story but the build-up of the movie that paves your way to the end is not good enough. The plot has loopholes at many points that cannot be avoided. One of the major loopholes with Bamfaad is the lack of character development as the story progresses. Naseer and Neelam are introduced on a decent character note but the duo fails to connect to the audience.

Aditya Rawal makes an impressive debut as Naseer. The actor plays the character exceptionally well. Shalini Pandey, on the other hand, is good as Neelam as well but falls flat in several scenes. Apart from Shalini’s character, the chemistry between Naseer and Neelam also falls flat on many levels. The duo try hard to create a spark of emotions with their chemistry but fails to do so. A series of scenes of the two of them with deep love dialogues would have made it easier for the audience to relate to the couple. Vijay Varma steals the show here. The actor owns his character and gets into the skin of Jigar, the gangster and obsessive lover

Still from the movie

Bamfaad feels like an old wine in not so new bottle that fails as a love story on many levels. What is impressive in this sea of loopholes is Aditya Rawal’s debut as a bold and rebellious Allahbadi and Vijay Verma as an obsessive lover.

Final verdict: Bamfaad is not your option if you are looking for anything new to watch. You can watch it for good performances and if you are a Paresh Rawal fan, Aditya as Naseer will not disappoint you.
