Sonakshi Sinha, known for her diverse roles in Bollywood, recently garnered attention for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Her husband, Zaheer Iqbal, expressed his admiration for her portrayal of a negative character, revealing that he found her performance to be "very scary."
In a candid interview on Zaheer shared how deeply Sonakshi's role impacted him. He was surprised by her ability to embody the darker aspects of her character, Fareedan, and praised her emotional depth in the series. "I love her in Heeramandi as the negative character. Amazing! But just watching you in Heeramandi, I was like, oh, she is very scary," he remarked.
While Zaheer appreciates Sonakshi's work in various genres, he admitted a preference for her more vibrant and energetic roles in commercial films like R...Rajkumar. He acknowledged that many consider Lootera to be her best film, and while he agrees with that sentiment, he prefers to see her in roles that exude positivity rather than sadness. "I like every commercial film of hers. Everyone says that Lootera is great, but I love R...Rajkumar and those kinds of films where she has energy. In Lootera, it was a brilliant performance, but I don't like her when she is sad," he explained.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which marks Bhansali's debut in the OTT space, features an ensemble cast including Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. The series explores the lives of courtesans during pre-independence India and was released on Netflix on May 1, 2024. Although it received mixed reviews overall, Sonakshi's performance was particularly praised for its complexity and intensity.
Reflecting on her role, Sonakshi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play a character she had long desired to portray. She noted that Fareedan is a multifaceted character driven by strong emotions such as anger and revenge. This role represents a significant departure from her previous work and aligns with her goal of exploring diverse and powerful female characters on screen.
As Sonakshi continues to evolve as an actress, both she and Zaheer look forward to what the future holds in their respective careers.
