'When you play a negative role, you are an open bird' - Jatin Shah

Jatin Shah, the very down-to-earth and charming actor seen in serials like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasturi has been appreciated by one and all for his effortless and flawless portrayals of both positive as well as negative characters..

Here is the actor talking about his journey so far, his future projects and personal life...

Describe your journey as an actor…
My journey here has not been easy at all. I have had my share of struggles, ups and downs. But everything depends on how you take your life ahead. I am happy today that I have overcome the hurdles in my life and have always been positive in my approach. I have many dreams to accomplish and am putting 100% to my work and I can say that I am on the right path.

Raunak Singhania started off as a very positive character; now it has turned totally opposite. How does it feel to portray such a graphical change in one character?
It is always natural that people admire the positive characters. But I believe that as an actor, one should be capable enough to portray any character, positive, grey or black whatever comes his way.

Your fans loved you as Vikram Aditya Mehra in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. Is there a chance of Adi returning back..
No , I don’t think so!!

You have done positive, grey and completely black roles. Which role do you enjoy playing the most?
Each role has a different charm. When you play negative, you are an open bird. But the positive roles are totally different, where you need to look positive yet subtle. I love to play both the extremes though (laughs).

Your fans are very eager to see you in a show as a solo lead, when will their wish come true?
I am also eager to do a solo lead. But I have not got any lead role from Balaji. Frankly speaking, I got 2-3 lead roles from other production houses, but I did not take it up as I do not want to ditch Balaji and leave them in between. Ekta has trusted me so much, now it is my responsibility to deliver. Let’s see what I have in store for the future!!

You will now be seen with your girl friend Priya Bhatija and your on screen partner Shalini in Ekta’s upcoming show Kabhie Yaar Kabhie Pyaar. So how does it feel?
It always feels good to be with Priya. We never get to spend much time as we are busy with our work. But this is a great opportunity. We both are not good in dancing, but we will work hard for sure!! It will be great to dance with Shalini too…

When and where did you meet Priya and how did you get close? What do you like the most in her?
See, I am a very reserved kind of a guy. When I had set foot in Mumbai, I used to spend most of the time working and then used to hang out with few friends. I met Priya at my friend’s birthday party; we got in touch, became friends and then one day realized that we are made for each other. I like Priya’s simplicity a lot.

Is wedding on cards?

Coming back to work, the one dream role you want to do…
I want to do a lead role in a daily soap which has a great story line. Also, I want to make a mark for myself in Bollywood too.

So is Bollywood calling Jatin?
Yes, I did get few audition calls. But I did not make it there as I did not want to leave the serials Ekta has given me. I want to get better as an actor first…

You will be playing Sahdev in Ekta’s Kahaani Humaarey MahaaBhaarat Ki. So how is the preparation going?
Well, I am very happy that I am part of this big epic coming from Ekta. We are undergoing training in sword fighting. My character does not require a great body, so I am spared there (laughs). But I am doing the minimum work-out to look good in my costume.

How do you think this big epic on 9X will go?
This is going to rock for sure!! Ekta has all the big names, Hiten, Chetan, Sakshi and many more. They are spending money like crazy on the sets, costumes and the entire setup. We have the ace designer Manish Malhotra and stylist Alan Amin helping out. All said and done, Ekta’s Mahaabaarat is going to go the big way, mark my words!!
