Some are strong-headed, others are overbearing, and a few try their hardest to be 'cool'. However, these TV moms have filled our homes with laughter and tears over the years.

A mother's abundant love for her son while dejecting his wife, is a common phenomenon, and every woman who is not chosen by the mother-in-law has adapted to this set-up. Our Indian television also, does not shy away from showing how over-possessive mothers can cross limits and can dare to pull off a suicide attempt in order to make the family dance to their tunes.

Preeto from Shakti " Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki on Colors:

Preeto has been trying hard to throw Soumya out of Harman's life, but has been unsuccessful. And one of the many instances involved her staging a suicide attempt, where she tried to burn herself.

The way the show is progressing, it does not look like it really matters to Harman, whether Soumya is a 'kinner' or not! Nor does it look like he has any expectations of enjoying the bliss of fatherhood!

Dayavanti in Naamkarann on Star Plus:

Pulling off another stunt, Dayavanti knew that it will be difficult to keep Ashish and Avani away from each other. However, this was way more realistic and terrifying! And her blackmailing was partially successful as Ashish started having second thoughts about his commitment towards Avani and his daughter.

But as absence makes the heart grow fonder, Ashish and Avani happily united, despite facing difficulties.

Dadi in Swaragini on Colors:

Dadi mocked a suicide after seeing Shekhar still spending time with Shramishtha.

Though Dadi was extremely scared that none of the family members dramatically stopped her after she poured kerosene on herself, she lit a matchstick praying that somebody from the family would stop her. Her plan was finally successful when Sanskaar barged into the scene to stop her.

Naturally, the heroine as a martyr, takes the drama quotient a few notches higher and makes the story line spicier and the cry babies spice up the show all the more which made it one of the most loved shows on Indian Television at a point of time.

Ishwari in Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi on Sony TV:

Ishwari, who was not happy to see love blooming between Dev and Sonakshi, took a dramatic step in order to pressurise her son to part ways with his lady love.

Ishwari was unable to accept Sonakshi in her life and attempted suicide. Dev was stunned with Ishwari's actions and decided to end his relationship with Sonakshi.

The protagonist's tears, sorrow, and eventual rise from her pain means better TRP's and just when everything seemed fine, the makers tweaked the story line of a 'saas-bahu' drama in an unconventional way. We now wait to watch what unfolds when Dev is to consider a possible second marriage to please his mother due to Sonakshi's inability to conceive.

Vasundhara in Thapki...Pyaar Ki on Colors:

Pandey family showed Vasundhara the door, when she successfully broke Thapki and Dhruv's wedding. A furious Dhruv also disowned her as a mother and Shraddha played her cards well, bringing more humiliation and pain to Vasu. In order to make a place in the family once again, Vasu decided to stage a suicide and decided to act as if she would jump off a cliff!

The 'beta' being cornered to selecting his mother over his 'Patni,' gained immense eyeballs!
