Rubina Dilaik, who became a mother to twin girls with her husband Abhinav Shukla in November 2023, recently shared her thoughts on a common social practice she encounters — the comparison of her daughters’ skin tones. The actress addressed the issue in a vlog, discussing how people around her often make remarks about the physical differences between her children.
She revealed that the comments she receives are usually centered on complexion. “My one baby is little dusky, the other one is fair… and people come and compare, which is so bad. But I always tell them that my daughter is beautiful, forget fair or dusky. And I tell them, never bring this comparison in my home,” Rubina said.
The actress also shared how these observations are not limited to strangers. Sometimes, they come from those within her family. She explained that even close relatives have given her suggestions and traditional tips aimed at changing a child’s complexion. “Sometimes, even our family members and relatives advise that we should try applying dal paste or besan to lighten her complexion, but I tell them to not even think about it. My daughters are very beautiful.”

Rubina went on to talk about the approach she is taking as a parent. Although her daughters are still in their infancy, she believes that consistent and positive communication can shape their mindset over time. She said, “They are still very young to understand but I always whisper to them, ‘You're beautiful just the way you are, you are strong, you are fearless’. This is how we build the psychology. It took me 30+ years to realise it, but I want my daughters to know it right from the start.”
Through her message, Rubina expressed the importance of early reinforcement of self-worth, and the need to protect children from being subjected to comparisons based on appearance. She hopes to create an environment where both her daughters grow up feeling valued and confident in their identity.
