Anushka, who hails from an Army background as her father, Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, served in the Indian Army shared a moving note on Instagram. “Eternally grateful to our Indian Armed Forces for protecting us through these times like the heroes that they are,” she wrote. “Heartfelt gratitude to the sacrifices they and their families have made. Soon after, Virat Kohli echoed his wife’s sentiments with a powerful message. “We stand in solidarity with, and salute our armed forces for fiercely protecting our country in these difficult times. We are forever indebted to our heroes for their unwavering bravery,” he posted. “Heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices they and their families make for our great nation. Jai Hind.”

These tributes came in the wake of India launching Operation Sindoor, a precise and strategic retaliatory strike on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7. The operation was carried out in response to the deadly Pahalgam attack and was described by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as “executed with precision and sensitivity.” Meanwhile, reports from the Indian Army confirmed that Pakistan had resorted to “unprovoked” drone strikes and ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC) on the intervening night of May 8 and 9.

While the couple’s patriotic messages won hearts, they were also in the spotlight for a completely different reason just a day earlier. A video from their recent outing in Bengaluru went viral, showing Anushka exiting a car and walking ahead while seemingly ignoring Virat’s hand gesture. This small moment triggered fan speculation about possible tension between the duo.
