Vaastav 2: Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar to team up for a second franchise film? Here's what we know

Sanjay Dutt and Bollywood fans have a special place in their hearts for Vaastav. In 1999, the movie hit the marquee and was a blockbuster with its performances, dialogues and gritty story-telling. Sanjay Dutt’s Raghu is hailed at par with his best works like Munnabhai and Khal Nayak. It seems 26 years later, Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Manjrekar have decided to make Vaastav 2. It is going to a franchise, and not a continuation of the old story. As we know, Raghu had died in the climax of Vaastav.

It seems Mahesh Manjrekar has cracked a great idea for a gangster movie. It will be a franchise that fits into the world of Vaastav. Sanjay Dutt and Manjrekar have had long discussions and he is keen to play Raghu all over again. A source told Pinkvilla, “Mahesh is presently working to develop the idea into a screenplay and Sanju is waiting to hear the entire subject.” In the recent past, we have seen Sanjay Dutt as the deadly Adheera in KGF 2. He was also a part of the blockbuster Tamil movie Leo where he played Antony Das, the drug dealer and elder brother of Leo (Thalapathy Vijay). He did Double iSmart with Puri Jagannadh in Telugu.

Subhash Kale will be financing the film. Vaastav 2 is supposed to go on floors by end of 2025. It will be a two hero project. Once Mahesh Manjrekar finishes the story and screenplay, he will look at an actor from the current generation who can fit into the world of Vaastav. The source added, “It’s all work in progress at the moment at a very nascent stage, but the conversations for Vaastav 2 are very much on.” In all probability, it will be an A-List young hero. As of now, Mahesh Manjrekar and his team of writers are preparing a script that promises high-octane gangster drama with larger-than-life dialogues.
