The tradition of documenting one's ancestors' teachings is slowly disappearing, filmstar Amitabh Bachchan said here Thursday while releasing sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan's book on his father Haafiz Ali Khan.

"One of the reasons for me to come here was because I feel the tradition of documenting our ancestor's teaching is dying. I don't think that what a son does for his parents is ever enough. Parents teach us so much and we should not limit these teachings to ourselves," the actor said while releasing Amjad Ali Khan's "My Father, Our Fraternity".

Bachchan's son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya were also present at the event.

He said his family and Amjad Ali Khan's shared a close bond.

"Amjad-bhai and Subhalakshmi-ji (his wife) have spent so many lovely evenings with us. They have been really memorable," Bachchan said.

He also said he always wanted to learn the sarod.

"I even bought one recently. And one day, I sat with your (Amjad Ali Khan's) pictures and tried to get inspiration. But I realised within two minutes that I can't do this!" he said.

Remembering his father, Amjad Ali Khan said: "This day celebrates the 'guru-shishya parampara'. My father died in 1972 and I was so fortunate to be his son. He was so compassionate, kind and encouraging."
