On a pleasant Wednesday morning, it was announced that the remakes of timeless classics such as Mili, Koshish, and Bawarchi were in the works. These evergreen films, which have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema, will be given a fresh take by a new generation of filmmakers.
The news came from Anushree Mehta, the director of the popular Radhika Apte starrer Mrs. Undercover. Taking to social media, Anushree made an official announcement regarding the remakes. Collaborating on this ambitious project are Anushree and the production houses Jaadugar Films, represented by Abir Sengupta, and SRS Productions, led by Sameer Raj Sippy.
To express their excitement, Anushree shared a picture on her social media platform alongside Abir and Raj, captioning it with the announcement. It read, "I am very excited to share the news that @abirsenguptaa & my company @jaadugarfilms has joined hands with @sameer__raj__sippy of @s_r_s_productions to jointly PRODUCE the OFFICIAL HINDI REMAKES of 3 Classic Evergreen Hindi Movies: BAWARCHI (1972) starring Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bachchan & directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. MILI (1975) starring Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan & directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Along with the post they issued a joint statement expressing their thrill to kickstart this idea. Anushree and Abir's statement read, "We are absolutely thrilled to be setting upon this magical journey of making three of our all-time favourite movies in a new form and mould. It is a huge responsibility as Koshish, Bawarchi and Mili are celebrated in India and across the globe which have been made by the legendary Gulzar Saab and Hrishi da who have set the standards of filmmaking for generations to come. These are the films we have grown up on and they are the stories that the new generation should also witness; to know our rich cinematic legacy. We endeavour to put our best to live upto the expectations, the responsibility and most importantly remake these films which will touch the audiences hearts far and wide."
Among the films to be remade is the beloved Mili, featuring the iconic duo of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Directed by the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Mili holds a special place in the hearts of fans. Another gem from Mukherjee's repertoire is Bawarchi, which starred Jaya Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna, among others.
