'The crowd was overwhelming': Jay Soni opens up on NARROW ESCAPE from Mahakumbh stampede

Popular television actor Jay Soni, known for his roles in Sasural Genda Phool, Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently experienced a terrifying ordeal during his visit to the Mahakumbh Mela. The actor had travelled with his family to take a holy dip when chaos erupted due to an uncontrollable surge in the crowd.

Recounting the horrifying moment, Jay revealed that his two brothers separated between the crowd. Holding onto his mother and daughter tightly, he ensured their safety, but a sudden push in the crowd caused his daughter to get hurt. Despite the authorities' efforts, the sheer number of people made it impossible to maintain order.

When contacted, Jay shared, "Yes, the situation was extremely chaotic. While the management tried their best, the crowd was overwhelming. My brothers went missing in the commotion, but I refused to let go of my mother and daughter's hands. Later, I contacted my brothers and told them to head straight to the hotel rather than searching aimlessly in the crowd."

He expressed relief and added, "By God's grace, nothing major happened, and we all reached safely."

The tragic incident occurred between 1 AM and 2 AM when the crowd's pressure became unmanageable. Barricades were broken as people jumped over, crushing those waiting. Over 90 people were rushed to the hospital, and unfortunately, 30 lost their lives.

Jay Soni and his family were lucky to escape unscathed, but the incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of overcrowding at religious gatherings.
