That '60-70s Style: Styling Lessons From 'It Happened in Calcutta'

Set in the times of world war, outbreak of epidemic and extreme political unrest, It Happened In Calcutta,  ALT Balaji-Zee5’s latest web series has hit the digital world like a storm. IHIC not just tells a tale that strums the right love strings but also takes our style desk flashing back on the journey of swinging 60s and 70s era, when fashion was eccentric, fun and vibrant. Think colourful prints, flared silhouettes and voluminous hairstyle, It Happened In Calcutta makes a strong sartorial statement. 

Let’s take a look at how each character is styled as we teleport you to the stylish 60s:

Meet Naghma Rizwan as Kusum. A fierce Bong with a Masters in medicine and a girl-next-door Bong look. From her first salwaar- kameez clad avatar with open mane and a subtle makeup look, to the retro saree style, fancy hairdos, Kusum means sincere but sweet Bengali charm.

Pamela Singh Bhutoria plays a young and vivacious actress called Monalisa from the 70's, who is a fan of Marilyn Monroe and this get-up is proof. As a heroine would, her hair is styled in striking retro curls and makeup done with the most eye popping colors. Pamela truly looks like a diva!

Simran Kaur Mundi as Sujata, a sweet and demure London return girl who is head-over-heels in love with the male protagonist Karan Kundrra (Ronobir). Justifying her character, Sujata's been styled in vintage flared dresses and hair kept in short retro-bob and makeup just sweet and simple.

Now is the turn of the hero of the film, Karan Kundrra aka Ronobir Chatterjee. A casanova of the sixties with no morals but truck loads of suave ensembles. With printed slim-fit shirts and bright color suits, Karan's styling as Ronobir does full justice to that era. 

Harman Singha as Dr Ratan Bagchi representing all the friend-zoned lovers is also dressed that way. His looks range from flared high-waist bottoms to the occasional regular fit suits. Ratan is truly the boy-next-door of the 60s.
