Telly celebs on Krishna Janmashtami!

Janmashtami which marks the birth of lord Krishna, is a festival celebrated by the Hindus. This festival is celebrated with lots of zeal and enthusiasm every year. The Gujarati community is seen very active in this celebration, which is followed by Ladoo Gopal's welcome, Jhula Julana and a Puja, respectively.

Gokulashtami is the day that follows Janmashtami, where we observe the Dahi Handi Utsav taking place all over. It is an occasion where a group of boys/girls break the Dahi Handi in a similar way as Kanhaya (Lord Krishna) used to do.

Interestingly, most of the Gujarati families also indulge into playing the famous games of card namely Teen Patti. It is one of the games where we usually witness Gujarati people having a gala time and also try their luck to win the game.

On this auspicious occasion of Krishna's birth which is known as Janmashtami, we got in touch with few of the Gujarati telly celebs to know how do they celebrate this festival and what makes it special for them.

Shrenu Parikh currently seen in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon... Ek Baar Phir - In my hometown, Krishna Janmashtami used to be celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and we used to wait eagerly for this festival. Being a Gujarati we used to follow all the rituals related to this festival. Midnight at 12 am there used to be Ladoo Gopal ceremony and also Palna Jhulaana. I used to decorate the Jhula for Krishna kanaihaya with so much love and dedication. Not just that, we family cousins and friends used to play Teen Patti at my place during Janmashtami and now since I'm here in Mumbai, I'm going to miss all the fun we had. However, all this is not possible being in Mumbai as I am busy shooting. Nevertheless, I will surely keep a fast, as I do every year and also will try to catch up on the online Mathura Darshan on Janmashtami.

Sachin Parikh currently seen in Haunted Nights on Sahara One - Not just me but my entire family celebrates Janmashtami. We go to the Haveli (Temple) and celebrate the festival. Also, we do go to watch Saarvajanik Handi Utsav. I like to watch the matki fodo utsav which is a treat to the eyes. But people should take a lot of care while they are involved in this handi utsav, as it entails a lot of risk. When I go back to the memories of my old days, I remember I used to participate in the handi utsav many-a-times and I broke the matki too. The happiness after breaking the handi was just priceless. 

Kajal Pisal  last seen in Ek Hazaaron Mai Meri Behna Hai - I am born and brought up in a Gujarati family and this is a must celebrate festival for us. The celebrations for this festival begins right from 12 am midnight and continues till the next day. As a child, I still remember my father used to take me to watch the Handi Utsav in our area and I used to enjoy it very much. However, nowadays I prefer watching it on television itself. In fact, one of the most unusual and special thing I do particularly on this day is a small cake cutting ceremony at my home to celebrate Krishnaji's birthday and I am following this practice even after getting married. I am very much excited to celebrate this festival yet again.
