Kimberly Marasco files fresh $30 million lawsuit claiming Swift copied her work in multiple albums and music videos. Global music icon Taylor Swift is once again caught in a legal tussle. This time, a woman from Florida named Kimberly Marasco has filed a lawsuit against the singer, claiming Swift and her company, Taylor Swift Productions, have allegedly copied her work across several albums.
As per reports in Newsweek, Marasco is struggling to officially serve the singer with the legal documents due to her out-of-state residence and high security. In a motion submitted on Monday, Marasco stated that she is facing “extreme difficulties” in reaching Taylor Swift because of the singer’s hectic schedule and safety arrangements.
Marasco is seeking $30 million in damages. She has alleged that her creative work has been used in Swift’s albums Folklore, Midnights, Lover, and The Tortured Poets Department. According to Jezebel, the plaintiff admitted she never bought any of Swift’s albums since she prefers “alternative rock” music. However, she discovered the alleged infringement while watching The Eras Tour.
She stated in the legal papers, “That is when she discovered the infringement and went back to her earlier albums to check other songs since there were so many found.” This led her to examine the older tracks, where she claims to have found multiple similarities.
Back in February, Marasco had already filed a lawsuit against Taylor Swift, along with Jack Antonoff, Aaron Desner, Universal Music Group, Inc., and Republic Records. Out of all the defendants, Swift is the only one who hasn’t been served yet.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Marasco has taken legal action against the pop star. She had sued Swift once before, but the case didn’t go far. Judge Aileen Canon reportedly dismissed Swift from the previous case due to the delay in serving legal papers.
This time too, Marasco pointed out the same challenge. According to her, Swift’s ongoing Eras Tour has made it difficult for her to serve the notice on time. Whether the lawsuit will move forward or face the same fate as the earlier one remains to be seen.
