Tamil actor Srikanth was arrested by the Chennai Police on Monday in connection with a narcotics case. He was produced before a magistrate in Egmore and has been remanded to judicial custody until July 7. The arrest follows the detention of T Prasad, an AIADMK IT wing member, who is believed to have supplied drugs to the actor.
Medical Examination and Interrogation
Srikanth was taken for a medical check-up at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where a blood sample was collected. The results reportedly confirmed the presence of a banned substance. He was then brought to the Nungambakkam Police Station, where he was interrogated for over nine hours as part of the investigation.
Link to Co-Producer Prasad
Investigators believe Srikanth procured the narcotics from T Prasad during a party connected to the film Theekirai. Prasad is a co-producer of the film, which features Srikanth in the lead. Authorities are examining whether the party was used as a setting for the alleged transaction and are looking into the professional relationship between the two.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing to probe the larger network involved in the supply of narcotics. There is a focus on whether other individuals in the film or political circles were aware of or participated in the exchange. Officials have not confirmed if additional arrests will be made but indicated that surveillance on other suspects has been stepped up.
Career Overview
Srikanth has been part of the South Indian film industry since the early 2000s. Starting with television, he made a successful transition to cinema and has acted in numerous Tamil and Telugu films. His recent film, Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, released in March this year.
Next Legal Steps
With Srikanth now in judicial custody, his legal team is expected to file for bail soon. Any further developments in the case will likely hinge on the findings from the interrogation of both Srikanth and Prasad, as well as evidence collected during the investigation.
