Swara Bhasker Slams Twitter for Suspending Her Account Over Republic Day Wish

Actor Swara Bhasker recently expressed her frustration after X (formerly Twitter) permanently suspended her account. She took to Instagram to share screenshots of the notices she received from the platform, questioning the decision.

Swara revealed that two of her tweets were flagged for copyright infringement, leading to the suspension. She wrote, '(You can’t make this stuff up!!!!) Dear X, Two images from two tweets have been marked as ‘copyright infringements’. Basis which my X account is locked / disabled, I can’t access it and permanent suspension has been approved by your teams.'

She further explained which posts were reported. One of them featured an orange background with Hindi text reading, 'Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa hain, Tere qaatil zinda hain.' Swara argued that this phrase is widely used in progressive movements and does not violate any copyright laws. She called it a part of modern urban folk idioms.

The second flagged tweet included a picture of her daughter, whose face was hidden, waving an Indian flag along with the text 'HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY' India. Expressing disbelief, Swara questioned, 'How can this possibly be a copyright infringement ???? Who has a copyright on my child’s likeness???' She called both complaints “ridiculous and untenable” under any legal definition of copyright.

Swara believes her account was suspended due to mass reporting aimed at silencing her. She wrote, 'If these tweets have been mass reported they are aimed to harass the user I.e. myself and are aimed at suppressing my freedom of speech and expression. Kindly review and reverse your decision. Thanks, Swara Bhaskar.'

Swara, known for her outspoken political views, has been active on social media, voicing her opinions on various issues. She was last seen in the 2022 film Mimamsa and will soon appear in Mrs Falani. In 2023, she married activist-politician Fahad Ahmad and later welcomed their daughter, Raabiya.
