Swara Bhasker, who has been away from the silver screen since her last appearance in Veerey Di Wedding (2018), has once again made headlines. This time, not for her work in films, but for her powerful words on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The actor and activist shared an emotional and heartbreaking post on Instagram, where she expressed her frustration, helplessness, and horror about the atrocities taking place in Palestine.
Swara began her note by talking about her everyday life—how she dresses up, does makeup, posts happy family pictures and cute reels of her baby daughter Raabiyaa. But she admitted that despite all the normalcy, the images from Gaza haunt her daily. She wrote about seeing wailing parents, headless children, and people being blown apart by bombs. “Today, a man being burnt alive in a tent. An actual living man burning alive!” she wrote. She ended her message with the hashtag: #genocideisnotnormal.
In her next post, Swara used bold statements to drive home her message. “Burning people alive is not normal! Slaughtering babies is not normal! Bombs are not normal!!!” she emphasized. She accused the Western world of creating wars and weapons and conducting genocides under the disguise of normalcy. “Speak up against genocide!” she urged, along with a broken heart and Palestinian flag emoji.
Swara further added that we are witnessing the worst of war crimes being live-streamed on our phones, and by not acting, we are all slowly losing our humanity. “Israel is not just destroying Gaza and decimating Palestine, it is robbing the human race of our humanity,” she wrote. Her caption read: “Every day as we silently watch this live-streamed genocide and do nothing... the human race, the world dies a little by little.”

It began with intense conflict between Israel and Hamas, leading to massive bombings and military strikes on Gaza. As a result, thousands of innocent civilians — including children, women, and the elderly — have lost their lives. Homes, schools, and hospitals have been destroyed, leaving people without shelter, food, or medical aid.
Gaza is under a complete blockade, cutting off access to basic supplies. The international community has raised concerns, calling it a violation of human rights. However, despite protests and global outrage, the violence continues. Many are calling it a genocide, as civilians are being targeted and entire families wiped out. Social media has played a huge role in showing the real-time horrors, with disturbing visuals being shared daily. The world watches in silence, while the people of Gaza face unimaginable suffering and loss.
For those unfamiliar with her personal life, Swara Bhasker married political activist and Samajwadi Party leader Fahad Ahmad on February 16, 2023. They welcomed their baby girl, Raabiyaa, in September of the same year. The couple first met at a protest rally and grew close through their shared activism before tying the knot.
Swara’s voice remains strong and fearless, reminding us once again that silence in the face of injustice is not an option.
