Suresh Mukund, a man who began as a reality show dancer has now led his team, Kings United to become the first-ever Indian dance group to win a title at the World Hip Hop Championship.

In a chat with ETimes TV, Mukund shared how he started his journey with Boogie Woogie to struggling to convince his parents and winning dance battles on the international platform.

Talking about Boogie Woogie, Mukund said, There was only one show in our time Boogie Woogie. We didn’t have Internet and I was only one to have a phone in my group. We didn’t know how to reach the reality show platform. We took years to learn about Boogie Woogie’s audition dates. We would catch a glimpse on TV that the audition is happening in this city and there used to be so much crowd. This used to be a huge challenge. Nowadays, reality shows approach you if they spot you on social media. And now, along with opportunities, talents have also increased."

On struggling to convince parents, he said, "Convincing the parents of team members was also a challenge. I had done nothing in life at that moment but to convince them that there is an opportunity in this field was challenging. I had to convince them to trust me. Initially, my parents and brothers were against it. We had a family business and they told me that if I want to earn money I should join the business. But earning money was not my goal. They were so dead against me taking up dance, I joined the business for 9-10 months. But I didn’t do anything apart from watching dance videos. After that time, I finally told my dad to give me a year’s time. That extended to four years, when I finally got a show. And lastly, it took me six years to convince them."

He added, "When we got a chance on the international platform, my team members and my parents’ outlook towards dance finally changes. They read news articles about us and thought we are doing something."
