Surbhi Jyoti returned to the screens as Zoya Farooqui, but this time, for a fresh version of Qubool Hai. With Qubool Hai 2.0, fans witnessed another twist to the story of Zoya and Asad (Karan Singh Grover) and seem to have loved it after all. With new nuances and a fresh story that followed in what looks like a parallel universe, this story was an interesting tale of Zoya and Asad belonging from two different countries, among other things.

Surbhi Jyoti recently got talking to us as Qubool Hai 2.0 returned with the digital version. Here's what she had to say.

Qubool Hai has always been special, how was it shooting for the show with the same team once again?

It was amazing because this is one show that is always going to be the closest to my heart because it is my first show as an actor. Doing that show again with the same co-stars, different story, and newness to it, it was overall an experience which I thoroughly enjoyed and I cannot express it in words, as to how excited I am. When they approached for an OTT show, I was thrilled and excited, because we already have the advantage that people love our show, and the makers and the writers have written a beautiful story, along with new and fresh nuances to the characters and the show. We have a complete package with thrill, drama, emotions, and action.

The fact that the show release on OTT, did it serve as an added pressure?

The pressure was that Zoya has already set the bar and now, we cannot go lower than that and we had prepared ourselves, we have taken a lot of time in the pre-production and story writing. The shoot happened in December, but since June-July, we have been working on pre-production, including the screenplay and look tests. The pressure was that whatever we have done, we have to go higher than that and I thinking we have pretty much done that.

How was it shooting with the team after all those years. Was it overwhelming?

Yes, it was like we have been continuously shooting only and we took a short break, and here we are again. The location was different, which added to the value of the product. We as a person grew and we changed, for good. When you meet someone after so many years, they change, so that also was taken care of, and the characters shouldn't look stale, and it was ensured there's newness.

There are stereotypes around TV shows, now, with the transition to OTT, what would you say are some stereotypes being broken?

Our show aired on TV and it broke the stereotypes then also, I was the only TV heroine who used to wear jeans and tuck in a shirt along with my laptop. I broke all the stereotypes as Zoya also, but now, when she is coming on OTT, then there is no chance that she will be anyone who people have already seen, she is a fresh character. With OTT, we have obviously been breaking stereotypes because there is a wide opportunity for everyone to show the new stories and new characters and present their thoughts. I think the web is a good thing, with new shows and stories, catering to different audiences, which means a wider opportunity for both actors and the viewers.

Qubool Hai has been a cult show. You started off as Zoya and now you're doing the same role again. Did you fear being typecast?

Not exactly. I have done a web show after Qubool Hai, I did Naagin, so whoever used to call me Zoya, started calling me Naagin. There is no room for being typecast because I have done absolutely contrasting roles. From Zoya to Naagin, there cannot be more contrast in choosing roles.

Qubool Hai is now streaming on ZEE5 and seems to have received rave reviews so far!
