Sunny Deol revisits his old feud with Shah Rukh Khan: "Everyone knew who was right so no point to....."

In a candid conversation at the recent News18 Summit, veteran actor Sunny Deol revisited his decades-old rift with Shah Rukh Khan, shedding light on how the conflict began during the making of Darr in 1993 and how time has finally healed those wounds.

Sunny shared that while there was once friction between him and Shah Rukh, especially regarding the way Darr portrayed its characters, he has since moved past it all. “There are so many stars, I can work with any of them,” he said, hinting at a potential reunion with Shah Rukh. “I worked with Shah Rukh in Darr, so I wouldn’t mind doing another film with him. Let’s see what we can do now.”

The feud traces back to the filming of Darr, directed by the late Yash Chopra. The film told the story of a man obsessed with a woman, played by Juhi Chawla, with Shah Rukh playing the stalker and Sunny the protective lover. Sunny Deol was reportedly taken aback by how Shah Rukh’s villainous character was glorified in the final cut. At the time, Sunny believed he would be the central heroic figure, but the narrative leaned heavily in favour of Shah Rukh’s performance, which didn’t sit well with him.

Speaking on the matter recently, Sunny said, “I wasn’t upset as such. Whatever happened then, it happened, that time has passed. Everyone knew who was right and who was wrong. It makes no sense to repeat it all over again. Otherwise, how will we move on?”

Over the years, the cold war between the two stars reportedly lasted for 16 years, during which they had no communication. But things took a positive turn when Shah Rukh Khan attended the success bash of Gadar 2 in 2023, showing that the animosity had finally melted away.

As fans celebrate Sunny’s return to the big screen with Jaat, many are hopeful that a future film with Shah Rukh Khan could be on the horizon this time, with both stars on the same page.
