Sooraj Thapar, who is currently seen in Sargun Mehta and Ravie Dubey’s Badall Pe Paon Hai, which is produced under their banner Dreamiyata Entertainment Private Limited, says Diwali this year will be very special for him as he lives away from his wife and kids, and they are eagerly waiting for him to come back to Mumabi for the festival.
He said, “When you go home after a long time, it’s a different feeling—going home, meeting everyone, and then if it's Diwali, it’s like a cherry on top. So, I'm really excited to meet everyone. My sisters have been living their lives in different places. One of them mostly lived in Chandigarh. Her name is Sunita Tandan because my brother-in-law was based in Chandigarh, but now he keeps coming to Mumbai for his films, mainly Punjabi films.”
“Another sister, Vanita Thaper, lives in Mumbai now, and my eldest sister, who was based in Dubai, has also shifted to Mumbai. So, this will be her first Diwali after moving here, and I think we will all be together in Mumbai. One of my brothers, Deepak Thaper, is still in Dubai, but the four of us siblings, along with our families, wives, and kids, will enjoy the festival a lot. I think it will be a great Diwali if everything goes well. That’s what we’re hoping for, but the rest is in God's hands. So, this Diwali is going to be very special because we are meeting after a long time. The last time we all met was during Ganpati, but not on Diwali,” he added.
And this festive get-together that makes him the happiest during festivals. Talking about his plans, he said, “I will be meeting my friends, as we have a Diwali party also. We have potluck at times, and we play cards, music, dance, and we enjoy a lot. and it’s just very fun and important to be with your family and friends on Diwali.”

Sooraj’s best Diwali memories were with his mother. He shared that she used to make besan ke ladoo, which they called ‘kande’, along with shakarpare. “My mom made around 3 to 4 different types of sweets. In our neighborhood, they made things like chakli and chivda. That was amazing, and it made for a great combination. My mom also used to make 'sooji ke ladoo' with raisins, and their taste still lingers in my memory,” he said.
“This time, I have told my wife Deepti that we need to make some of those sweets. So, she’s going to make a few things. I think we’ll definitely make 'sooji ke laddoo' and 'kande' for the kids, along with some savory snacks. Homemade sweets are always the best. We have lovely neighbors here, a Gujarati family, who make amazing chivda. They have told Deepti to try making chivda, so we will make that as well. It’s very tasty too,” he added.
While he enjoys dressing up for the festival, the department is now taken care of by his wife. “She decides everything—she orders the clothes, gets them made, and even coordinates colors. Whether it’s a kurta or pajama, she decides it all. Even during Ganpati, she had already decided what color to wear each day, including matching it with the color for Ganpati. All that happened this time, and Diwali won’t be any different. Whatever she does, she does it very well, and I really enjoy it, so I’m sure it’ll be great this time too,” he said.
Lastly, he also said that as an actor, he feels blessed to be able to celebrate every festival twice a year. He said, “We celebrate one festival on the sets once and one with family. Both of them are truly special. I feel actors are truly blessed to enjoy festivals twice with full joy.”
