Sonam REACTS on the masturbation scene from Veere being TROLLED

Sonam Kapoor is the best combination of blunt and blond and the actress has always maintained that image. Kapoor has always expressed what she feels and simply doesn't believe in mincing her words.

Her recently released film 'Veere Di Wedding' portrayed a fresh take on the perception about women in our society. While the film was hailed for its fresh content, Swara Bhaskar's masturbation scene from the film received a little flak from the audience.

So, now, after Swara, her best friend Sonam Kapoor had reacted to these trolls. While expressing her thoughts on that scene to Firstpost, Sonam stated, "Because people are mental. (She cracks up as she continues) It's like people asking Bebo, me and Swara: weren't you like, scared that you'll are abusing so much? Honestly, we didn't think, oh we're abusing, oh no there's a masturbation scene, oh no. Twenty years ago a girl would have thought, "Oh meri shaadi nahin ho rahi hai. What is this gonna be a reflection of? Oh mera divorce ho raha hai screen pe?" I don't come from that worldview".

Supporting this statement with an example from her family, Sonam said, "My father (Anil Kapoor) has constantly said he's a feminist, and he's brought me and Rhea up like that, so when I came to the real world, which is Bollywood, and suddenly I was not given the same room as a hero or not paid the same amount or treated in a certain way, I was in shock. Because I never thought there was a difference between my brother Harsh (Harshvardhan Kapoor) and me and my sister. In fact, when I told my Dad I didn't want to go to college that was what stressed him out. Not that I wanted to become an actress. You know what I'm saying?".

Asked what could be the reason behind people trolling the masturbation scene, she expressed, "Insecurity because we've broken the glass ceiling, we are not showcasing what they think is the abla naari, the correct Hindu woman, the one who needs to be rescued. It's a misogynistic society so it's like when bullies understand they have no real power. You know what I'm saying? Anything that's uninhibited is a show of strength. And certain people don't like that show of strength because you're standing up to the bully in a way".
