Actor Sonakshi Sinha might continue to have everyone feel lovingly envious of her owing to the lovely vacations she keeps embarking upon with husband, Zaheer Iqbal but when it comes down to business, she is always on game getting ready for her next film.

On that note, her film Nikita Roy is up for release and we, at India Forums managed to have her sit down for an exclusive conversation. The actress went on to talk about and discuss an array of things in a heartfelt chat.

An excerpt from the full interview was about the learnings she has had over the years starting off from Dabangg about 15 years ago to today and of course, her film Nikita Roy.

Q. You began your career with Dabangg, a breakout debut, but like every actor, you’ve experienced the good, the bad, and the cinematically questionable. Back then, you were new, perhaps more naïve. Now, fifteen years later, you’ve clearly evolved both personally and professionally. Looking back, what’s one moment of naïveté that affected you deeply, something that you feel you’ve truly matured from?

Sonakshi: I think the one thing that really got to me in the beginning was being affected by what was being written and said about me. I was very young when I started out, and I remember wondering how can people say such things when they don’t even know me. I had given it my best. But with time, you realize that not everyone is going to appreciate you. There will be brickbats along with bouquets, and you have to take both in your stride. If criticism is constructive, great, absorb it, improve, move on, and let it make you better. And the praise? Don’t let that swell your head either. Basically, you learn to walk the tightrope between applause and ambush.

Q. Let’s talk about Nikita Roy. What’s fascinating about thrillers, especially ones with supernatural shades, is the delicate balance between logic and entertainment. As an audience, you’re asked to suspend disbelief, sometimes by the neck. Do you, as an actor, also feel the need to let go of logic to be fully immersed in the experience?

Sonakshi: If I’m watching a film, absolutely yes. I want to lose myself in the world on screen. That’s how I enjoy it. But if I’m acting in the film, I don’t feel the need to suspend my personal beliefs. My job is to step into the character and do justice to her journey. In Nikita Roy, the story itself was gripping, a mix of mystery, supernatural twists, and an investigative edge. As an actor, that’s exciting. I’m a switch on switch off kind of performer, so it was pretty straightforward for me. But as an audience member, I definitely want to be swept away by the director’s vision, the performances, the entire world created on screen. That’s the magic of cinema, and yes, it intrigues me every single time.

On the work front apart from Nikita Roy, Sonakshi Sinha hasn't announced or is confirmed to be starring in multiple projects later but the one thing that she might surely be a part of is Heeramandi 2, even though the plans for that are far away. Nikita Roy releases on 18th July, 2025.
