After making a mark with emotionally driven and romantic roles, actor Hitesh Bharadwaj is stepping into a dramatically different space with the upcoming show Aami Dakini. Known for his nuanced performances in shows like Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, Bharadwaj is now taking on a role that delves into psychological horror and the supernatural. In a recent chat with India Forums, the actor opened up about the genre shift, the themes that intrigue him, and his dynamic with his co-stars.

You've moved from a romantic drama (Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin) to a psychological supernatural show (Aami Dakini). What was it like switching genres so drastically?
Yes, it’s a big shift from the emotional and romantic terrain of Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin to the dark, intense world of Aami Dakini. But that’s what excites me as an actor—to constantly explore new dimensions. This genre has allowed me to tap into my internal fears, silences, and instincts. There is a psychological edge to this show, and playing Ayan Roy Choudhary has been a creatively liberating experience.

As a viewer, what kind of supernatural or horror content do you gravitate towards?
I have always been intrigued by psychological horror and stories where the supernatural mirrors human emotions—like The Others and The Shining. I enjoy supernatural elements that don’t scream out loud but whisper into your psyche. Not just ghosts, but grief. Not just curses, but inherited trauma. That blend of realism and the otherworldly fascinates me.

How has your experience been working with your co-stars Sheen and Raachi?
Sheen and Raachi are not just talented co-actors—they’re genuinely warm, grounded people. Sheen brings a lot of stillness and grace to her scenes, while Raachi lights up the set with her infectious energy. We support each other, and that reflects on screen. When you work in such an emotionally and technically demanding space, having supportive co-actors makes all the difference.

With Aami Dakini, Bharadwaj not only ventures into uncharted creative territory but also adds a new layer to his body of work. The actor’s openness to experimentation and genre exploration suggests that he continues to evolve—driven by both instinct and artistic curiosity.
