The Indian Women hockey team lost to Great Britain in the bronze medal match. They might not have won a medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, but they won the hearts of millions of people in the country. While they couldn't make it to the finals, their run was nothing less than an inspiring one.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment as they couldn't make history.
Now, Shah Rukh Khan has also expressed his dismay to the news and shared an inspiring message for the team. Lauding them for their excellent performance, he mentioned that they have inspired everyone in India.
"Heartbreak!!! But all reasons to hold our heads high. Well played Indian Women's Hockey Team. You all inspired everyone in India. That itself is a victory," SRK wrote in a tweet on Friday.
To this coach Marijne replied, "Thank you @srk for all the love! It's great to have support from the best in Bollywood. It's time for Chak De! part 2, what say?"
Earlier, after the team defeated Australia and entered the semi-finals, SRK penned a few lines and gave it a ‘Chak De! India’ twist. Reposting coach Sjoerd Marijne's comment about being further delayed because of the team's progress, the 55-year-old actor wrote, "Haan haan no problem. Just bring some Gold on your way back.. for a billion family members. This time Dhanteras is also on 2nd Nov. From: Ex-coach Kabir Khan."
The women's hockey team had already created history by becoming the first women's team to get to the semifinals of the Olympics. Although, they lost the match to Great Britain in a hard-fought bronze play-off match that saw them go down to a 3-4 score.
