In a recent interview with ETimes, actress Vidya Malavade, best known for her role as the Indian women’s hockey team captain Vidya Sharma in the iconic 2007 film Chak De India, reminisced about her experience working with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Directed by Shimit Amin, the film remains a landmark in Indian cinema for its inspiring narrative on teamwork and perseverance.

Malavade lauded Khan's extraordinary memory, describing it as "razor sharp." She remarked, "He's someone who doesn't forget anything." Reflecting on the dynamics on set, she acknowledged the challenges he faced working with a large ensemble cast of 16 women, noting his dedication and support. "He was the best coach we could have had, and we will always remain his team," she added, expressing her gratitude.

Chak De India tells the story of Kabir Khan, played by Shah Rukh Khan, a former Indian hockey player who redeems his reputation by coaching the underdog women’s national hockey team to victory. The film delves into themes of gender, communal identity, and national pride, resonating with audiences for its powerful message.

Reflecting on the film's legacy, Malavade described it as a "gift that keeps on giving." She shared that she had only watched the film once in theaters with her family. A humorous anecdote followed when a theater owner invited the cast to watch it again, only for them to be mobbed by fans, leading to a swift departure.

On her current projects, Malavade was recently seen in the third season of Mismatched, portraying Zeenat opposite Ranvijay Singha. Looking ahead, she is set to star in Sangee, alongside Sharib Hashmi, with the film scheduled for release on January 17th.
