Bollywood's most iconic on-screen pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, have achieved a remarkable new milestone with their evergreen romance, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). In a first for any Indian film, a bronze statue of the beloved duo will soon be unveiled at Leicester Square in London, immortalizing a memorable pose from the 1995 classic. This installation is a proud moment not only for Bollywood but for Indian cinema on the global stage.
The statue will become a part of the famous "Scenes in the Square" movie trail, an outdoor gallery that celebrates iconic moments and characters from cinematic history. It will be positioned on the eastern terrace outside the iconic Odeon cinema, marking the very place where Raj and Simran, the lead characters of DDLJ, unknowingly crossed paths in the film. This makes it even more special, as DDLJ is the first movie in the trail that actually features Leicester Square as a real shooting location.
Directed by Aditya Chopra and produced under the Yash Raj Films banner by the legendary Yash Chopra, DDLJ is considered a turning point in Bollywood history. It told the heartfelt love story of two young non-resident Indians who fall in love during a European holiday. From the music to the dialogues, every part of the film has become a cherished piece of Indian pop culture. Its connection with London, with scenes also shot at Hyde Park, Tower Bridge, Horseguards Avenue, and King's Cross makes the location of the statue even more fitting.

The announcement comes just ahead of the film's 30th anniversary in October 2025. Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, expressed immense pride, calling the statue a tribute to the worldwide love the film continues to receive. "It's an honour to stand beside global cinematic legends, and to show how Indian stories resonate across cultures," he said.
Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive of the Heart of London Business Alliance, shared, "This statue celebrates the global success of Bollywood and London's cultural diversity. We're excited to welcome fans from across the world."
With a stage musical adaptation titled Come Fall In Love -The DDLJ Musical set to premiere in Manchester this May, the legacy of DDLJ only continues to grow. And now, a statue in the heart of London ensures that Raj and Simran's love story remains timeless, just like the film itself.
