Shagun Pandey to play en English professor in Saru, collaborates with Shashi Sumeet for FIFTH time in a row

Actor Shagun Pandey, who was recently seen in Mera Balam Thanedaar playing the role of a police officer, is set to return to television in a completely new role. This time, he takes on a more grounded and intellectual character in the upcoming show Saru, where he plays an English professor.

The show, which will feature a female lead supported by Pandey’s character, will also star Anushka Merchande as the antagonist. Speaking about the transition from his last role, Pandey shared that he’s always aimed to take on characters that challenge him creatively.

“In Mera Balam Thanedaar, I played an IPS officer — someone who was commanding, disciplined, and took charge of every situation. But in Saru, my character is the opposite. He’s a relaxed, thoughtful professor who focuses on motivating his students rather than controlling them,” he explained. “It’s a shift from leading the narrative to supporting the main character’s journey, and I’m really enjoying that change.”

Saru also marks Shagun’s fifth project with producers Shashi and Sumeet Mittal. He has previously worked with them in shows like Shubharambh, Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, Meet: Badlegi Duniya Ki Reet, and Mera Balam Thanedaar.

Calling the collaboration a consistent source of encouragement, Pandey added, “Working with Shashi and Sumeet sir has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career. They’ve given me roles that allowed me to grow as an actor and as a person. My family often says I’m doing work that holds meaning and I agree. That kind of trust from a production house is rare, and I value it immensely.”
