Star Plus, known for offering innovative, spiritually rooted content, has announced its upcoming three-episode cultural special, Gita Mahotsav: Tulsi Ke Saath. The special will air from December 1 to December 3, 2025, at 6:30 PM. Aligned with the occasion of Gita Jayanti, the series marks an important step in India’s growing creative economy. The episodes aim to present the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in a contemporary format, led by one of Indian television’s most recognisable characters, Tulsi Virani, played by Smriti Irani.
Tulsi Virani Returns to Connect Generations
Tulsi Virani has long been regarded as one of India’s most trusted fictional figures, with strong cultural grounding and wide emotional appeal. Her character remains relevant across age groups, making her presence significant for a project centred on interpretation and reflection. Over the years, Tulsi has also extended her influence beyond Indian households. A notable example came during the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season Two integration when Bill Gates greeted the character with 'Jai Shri Krishna.' The moment highlighted Tulsi’s unique cultural recall and pointed to the growing global reach of India’s creative and entertainment-based soft power.
Smriti Irani Shares Her Experience
Speaking about reprising her role for this special, Smriti Irani shared her thoughts on the process. She said, “Returning as Tulsi for Gita Mahotsav has been both grounding and creatively enriching. India’s cultural and creative economy is witnessing a powerful resurgence, with audiences—especially the young—seeking stories that offer meaning, introspection, and emotional clarity. The Bhagavad Gita remains one of our greatest sources of wisdom, and interpreting its teachings for a new generation has been an honour. I hope viewers find the same strength and purpose in these episodes that I did while bringing them to life.” Her statement reflects the intent behind the special and its aim to connect traditional philosophy with today’s audience.
