Singer and actress Selena Gomez was seen in tears days after US President Donald Trump announced his decision to deport illegal immigrants. She shared her emotions on her Instagram Stories, although the post was later deleted.

The video captured the singer in a black outfit, seemingly filming from her home. It was shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter).

I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise

After the video, Gomez posted another message on her Instagram Story, stating, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people," seemingly addressing the backlash she received for speaking out.

Gomez's post followed closely on the heels of a nationwide crackdown by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which led to the arrest of 956 individuals—the largest operation since Trump returned to office. According to a BBC report citing ICE sources, these arrests were part of a series of operations conducted over the weekend, with 286 arrests on Saturday, 593 on Friday, and 538 on Thursday.

The US president has committed to launching the most extensive deportation wave in history. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum recently mentioned that her country received approximately 4,000 deported migrants during Trump's first week back in office, which she characterized as "not a substantial increase" from the usual rate. Government statistics indicate that over 190,000 individuals were deported to Mexico from January to November 2024, averaging around 17,200 deportations each month.

In the week since he took office, thousands of migrants have been deported to Central and South America; however, most of these deportations are linked to agreements that were established before his return to power.
