'Sanam Teri Kasam' makers: "We wanted to re-release it much before the trend started but producers were......"

The 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam has made a stunning comeback with its re-release, performing exceptionally well at the box office, far surpassing its initial run. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in lead roles, the film, directed by the talented duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, has gained a cult following over the years.

In an exclusive conversation with India Forums, the makers-directors and writers of the film shared their thoughts on its enduring legacy, their long-standing desire to re-release it even before the trend of re-releases began, and even revealed that a sequel has already been written. Talking about the same Vinay and Radhika shared,

"We had been thinking about this much earlier than the trend of re-releases. We were aware of the degree of success the film had; it was a very well-kept secret, but we always knew about the status of the cult, even four or five years ago. This was always a discussion among us because the audience continuously demanded, ‘Just re-release the film!’ They had been asking for six to seven years. Within a year or a year and a half of the film’s original release, people started saying, ‘Re-release it, and we will fill the theatres.’ Every year, they would express their frustration, urging the producers to release it, while we, as directors, always knew that it should have been re-released within one and a half to two years. But because the trend of re-releases started, and I guess after the success of Tumbbad, the producer found it a bit easier to agree to re-release it."

Further Radhika added,

"However, as directors, Vinay and I always knew that the film should have been re-released much earlier because we were listening to the audience. The public wasn’t following any trend; they had been asking for eight years, ‘Just release it, and we will fill the theatres!’
