Saiyaara set for a glorious 50-day run at the box office? Will it impact War 2?

Saiyaara has been a huge surprise for the industry. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s movie has made history for a film with debutants. It has grossed Rs 187 crores so far and the Rs 350 crore figure does seem within its reach. Today, on its second Friday, Saiyaara made a reported amount of Rs 18 crores, which is excellent. YRF is overjoyed at its success given that they spent more than seven years honing the skills of Ahaan Panday. Today, the trailer of War 2 is out. It has got largely positive reviews, with the presence of Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR who steps into Bollywood with this film. On social media, there has been some chatter on how the success of Saiyaara has created pressure on some of Bollywood’s biggest stars.

Producer and film business expert Girish Johar denies this. He told us, “I see the success of Saiyaara preceding War 2 a real win-win situation for YRF. There is no pressure as they’re different films. The success of this movie has proved that audiences still do repeat viewings of films they love.” Last year, Maddock Films too experienced a golden run as Munjya and Stree 2 were solid successes.

Saiyaara still has almost 20 days at the box office before War 2 hits the screens. It’s competitors in between will be Dhadak 2 and Son Of Sardaar 2. Johar says he expects Saiyaara to have a good box office run of 50 days. He highlights that 2025 has thrown some surprises at the box office. “We saw how Phule rang for more than 50 days at the box office despite being a small film,” he says. In comparison, Saiyaara is a monster at the box office.

War 2 is going to enjoy a huge release in IMAX theatres all over India, and the world. It has huge potential if the story, action and other elements click. Coolie is also coming on the same day but Rajinikanth’s movies do not generate much interest in the Hindi belt.

Dhadak 2’s trailer has intrigued people, and the songs too have their appeal. War 2 is a marquee film with its own existing fan base. Trade experts earlier told us that Saiyaara is proof of how even a smaller film can do extraordinary numbers if the content strikes a chord. So, more than competition this is like a push to put forth movies driven by conviction of filmmakers.
