Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap split after seven years of marriage

Saina Nehwal confirmed on social media that she and Parupalli Kashyap have decided to end their marriage after seven years. In an Instagram story, the Olympic medallist said, “Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing—for ourselves and each other.”

She expressed gratitude for their time together, stating, “I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”

The announcement has drawn quiet reflection from fans and fellow athletes, many of whom closely followed their shared journey from national camps to international podiums.

The two first met in Hyderabad while training under Pullela Gopichand. Their bond grew stronger through the years, rooted in the highs and lows of competitive sport. They reportedly began dating in the early 2000s during their junior years, gradually evolving into a couple known not just for their achievements but also for their off-court partnership.

Saina's career saw her become a trailblazer—winning bronze at the 2012 London Olympics and later becoming the first Indian woman to be ranked world No. 1 in badminton. Kashyap too made history, clinching gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and reaching the quarter-finals at the 2012 Olympics, a first for an Indian male shuttler.

In 2018, they officially tied the knot. By then, their professional roles had shifted as well—Kashyap began coaching Saina, guiding her through major tournaments, including her win over PV Sindhu at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. His transition from player to coach reflected their evolving dynamic, especially as injuries impacted his playing career.

Kashyap retired from professional badminton in 2024, marking the end of a significant chapter. While both have been open about challenges—injuries, career setbacks, and pressure—their statement now points to a conscious choice to move forward individually.

Though the partnership may have ended, their shared contribution to Indian badminton remains a defining part of their legacy. The announcement may be personal, but its quiet dignity has been acknowledged by fans who watched their journey unfold both on and off the court.
