Review: 'Looop Lapeta' relies heavily on Taapsee and Tahir's fine performances

There will be a lot of you who wouldn't move an inch away from your screens while watching it, and the film does have potential, especially courtesy of the actors and the cinematic brilliance going on the screen here.

Taapsee and Tahir Raj Bhasin

Looop Laptea takes you on an eventful journey as Savi (played by Taapsee Pannu) tries to save her boyfriend Satya (played by Tahir Raj Bhasin) when he loses cash belonging to a mobster. Savi races against the clock to save the day — if only she can make the correct choices as Satya’s freedom depends on it. Looop Lapeta is directed by Aakash Bhatia and is now streaming on Netflix.

With some rather impressive projects at hand, you know you have high hopes riding on this one, on the actors, and on Netflix.

Performances

The movie has brought together two of the most talented actors of today's time, each picking up projects that are better than their last. And it is safe to say that no matter how does the movie fair, or what kind of reviews do the story get, these two always come through and this time is no different.

Taapsee as Savi is an interesting character, and as a female, many might relate to her as to how she is always the one running around, to save the day. While she plays her part as a girlfriend well, she is also a daughter, and that aspect of the movie, is also well-explored, with a different kind of father-daughter equation explored here. Moving back to Taapsee's performance, she does manage to be the one shining once again, supporting the script, and making 2 plus hours worth the watch.

Taapsee and Tahir

Tahir, is an amazing actor, and while one can call him one of the finest finds of this past year, though he isn't new, and has been around for the longest time. With all the work he has been doing, this is another great addition to his filmography for all that he gets to perform here. And oh, can we talk enough about that smile? The 'jholer' smile, as we all know it as by now, is quite a trademark, and finely placed at every single instance.

Dibeyndu Bhattacharya, as Victor, is also a fine addition to the cast and gives out major old day gangsta vibes, exactly what it is supposed to do.

The Good

Tahir Raj Bhasin

The entire stylization of the movie, is at its best, and it makes us want to see more of what we are seeing. With performances being the film's highlight, the screenplay, look and feel, and production quality are also additional highlights that make the movie beautiful to look at. Due credits to the cinematographer and the entire creative team for coming up with the shades of 'green' (for Savi) and shades of orange (for Satya) and the way it all plays out during the film's runtime.

There will be a lot of you who wouldn't move an inch away from your screens while watching it, and the film does have potential, especially courtesy of the actors and the cinematic brilliance going on the screen here.

The Not So Good

Thriller as a genre, is known to us rather well by now, and it only takes a matter of time for us to like it, or not like it, at least for a film. For a movie that is a homage, and the basic concept is known to us, the story takes over an hour to introduce us to the loop, and by then, many might lose interest in seeing what's there to watch ahead. For me, the narration and story don't work very well, and the duration of the movie too, may not be the most apt.

Verdict

Taapsee Pannu

Looop Lapeta on Netflix may not be the finest from the platform in recent times, but it does just about a decent job at having a part of the audiences hooked and the performances help take it forward. You might want to give this a short and see if this 'looop' does manage to 'lapet' you into watching it!
