After Colors TV's show, Dil Se Dil Tak, Jasmin Bhasin is back with Star Plus' Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji. As it marks the actress' comeback thus everyone is excited about the show since the announcement. Also, going by the promo, the show will be endeavouring her skills of comic timing and after Dil Se Dil Tak, she will be back with her bubbly, chirpy character. Thus the show had already created a lot of buzz even before the release. Her role is loosely inspired from Geet played by Kareena Kapoor Khan in the hit movie, Jab We Met.
Though not much was revealed about the show but the promo revealed that she is the girl who will find happiness in extreme situations and will make everyone laugh.
What is the story?
The episode starts with a marriage setup where a bunch of girls are running as they are already late for the sangeet ceremony. And amongst them is Jasmin Bhasin aka Happy who also runs behind them. While they enter the venue an announcement of their dance performance is done. While everyone leaves it is revealed that Happy is going to dance in front of all this time as she has been dancing behind all since forever. Though her sister tries to stop her but she is determined. The entire incident is seen by Aru K Verma aka Chintu and he has already lost his heart to Happy. He stumbles with Happy's chachu and chachi and it is revealed that he is from the groom's side and has come with his family one day earlier. Happy's Chachu and Chachi greet him.
The dance performance starts and in between Happy comes in front and starts dancing crazily. Finally, she falls on the floor and the situation gets critical. Her Chachu and Chachi are irritated. Happy handles the situation and starts cracking jokes on her and slowly everyone starts laughing and enjoying the situation. Chachu and Chachi scoldHappy's mother for the situation. Happy's sister stops her.
Chachu and Chachi scold Happy for her misbehaviour and humiliate Happy and her family. It is revealed that she has lost her father and her Chachu has been looking after them since then. After they leave, Happy brings smile to her mother's face but her sister leaves in anger.
Happy promises to her sister that she will get a job after her graduation and will buy a home where their mother can live happily. They go to plan their sister Dinky's bachelorette.
Chintu and his family discuss how Happy has ruined her family's prestige by falling on the dance floor. It is slowly revealed that Chintu's father has suffered a cardiac arrest and he has taken care of the entire family. However, his brother Ansh Bagri aka Rocky is a complete opposite. He is a 'chichora'.
Happy and her sisters and brother are going for the party in her Chachu's car. And its speed is lesser than even a bullock cart. This agitates her cousins and sister but she moves according to her speed.
Rocky is revealed who is driving the car with his legs and his team is enjoying the stunt as well as the speed. His car goes and bumps into Happy's car and the looking glass is broken. Happy and her cousins are heartbroken.
Dinky asks Happy to cancel the bachelorette and return back but Happy asks them to enjoy. Meanwhile, the police charge Rocky for breaking rules but he tries to bribe him. Happy goes and shares the entire incident to the police. A small tiff between Happy and Rocky is established but the police take Rocky to the jail.
Well, this gives viewers a little idea on how and where the story will lead.
What's good:
Though the viewers have seen Jasmin in almost a similar role as that of Happy in Dil Se Dil Tak, yet viewers were excited to see her back in small screen. And needless to say, Jasmin did complete justice to her role. The actress' attempt to bring smile after a sad moment was smooth and the subtle changes brought a refreshment.
As promised by the makers it is a very light-hearted show and the content stays true to the title. The show will make you laugh and cry in installments but won't burden you with thoughts. Kudos to the director and the cinematographer for playing with the establishments and giving a picturesque larger than life view. The stellar cast is amazing and leaves no stones unturned to make the show and every moment appealing.
The transition of happiness and sadness is well balanced and it will be interesting to see how they stick to it. The way they established the trials of a girl comedian, who unknowingly cracks jokes just to bring smile to everyone's face is attractive. It won't be surprising to see a modern tale where Jasmin goes onto become a stand-up comedian later and negates the negativity of the society where she should not smile as her father has passed away.
What's bad:
The story hints at another love triangle by the end of the first episode. Apart from the emotional journey, the story doesn't promise anything new. While Happy's car is extremely slow then how come it overtook Rocky's car that is running at extreme speed. The tiff between Jasmin and Ansh seemed to be little dull but it will be too early to give a verdict on their chemistry as it is just the first episode.
The Verdict:
In overall, the show seems to be refreshing if until the makers keep the emotional journey as the highlight of the show.Performances are of top notch. If you want your mood to be refreshed, you can give it a watch once every day.
