Ranveer Allahbadia Allowed to Resume Podcast by SC, But With Strict Conditions

The Supreme Court has permitted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to resume uploading his podcasts, but with strict conditions. The court directed him to ensure that The Ranveer Show maintains "morality and decency" and remains suitable for all audiences.

The decision came after Allahbadia filed a petition stating that his podcast is his primary source of income. He highlighted that nearly 280 people depend on his show for their livelihood. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh considered his argument before allowing him to continue his content with the required undertaking.

Previously, the court had barred him from airing his podcast due to controversy over his remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show.

The Supreme Court extended Allahbadia’s interim protection from arrest but instructed him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation in Guwahati. The podcaster is facing multiple FIRs after his controversial statements on India’s Got Latent.

The case is being investigated by the Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai Police. On Monday, Allahbadia, along with fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, appeared before Maharashtra Cyber officials to record their statements.

An official involved in the case stated, 'In his statement, Allahbadia admitted that he made a mistake by making controversial comments on the YouTube show, for which he is being criticised.' Allahbadia acknowledged his poor choice of words and clarified that he attended Samay Raina’s show only as a friend. He also mentioned that he did not receive any payment for his appearance.

With the court's conditions in place, it remains to be seen how Allahbadia navigates his content going forward while ensuring compliance with the legal directives.
