On the occasion of World Environment Day, Simaran Kaur, known for her role as Riddhi in Zee TV’s Jamai No. 1, shared her thoughts on the day’s significance and the year’s pressing theme: Ending Plastic Pollution.
“World Environment Day always makes me pause and reflect,” she said, recalling how the message this year hit closer to home. Growing up, Simaran spent time by the sea, collecting seashells and enjoying the natural beauty of the shoreline. But the current state of those same beaches has left her deeply concerned. “Today, those same shores are littered with plastic waste. That shift breaks my heart,” she shared.
Speaking candidly, Simaran highlighted the personal steps she has taken over the years. She carries her own reusable water bottle, avoids single-use plastic straws and bags, and prefers products with sustainable packaging. These choices, she believes, are small but important. “These might seem like minor actions, but they add up,” she noted.

Even on the sets of Jamai No. 1, Simaran makes it a point to ask for plastic-free options. For her, environmental responsibility doesn’t end at home—it extends to her workplace as well. She understands the influence public figures can have and takes that responsibility seriously. “Being on a platform where I can influence a few, I feel a deep responsibility to lead by example,” she said. Simaran also emphasized the real dangers posed by plastic pollution, which she described as more than a visual problem. “Plastic pollution isn’t just an eyesore—it’s a threat to marine life, our ecosystems, and even our health.” She urged people to act with urgency and not see the issue as something distant or insignificant.
In a clear message, she added, “It’s time we break up with plastic, for good. Our planet is counting on us to do better—and I truly believe we can.”
Simaran’s message is a reminder that real change begins with individual choices—and that consistency, not perfection, is key in addressing environmental challenges.
