Television actress Sonal Vengurlekar, who has been a household name for her versatile performances in Yeh Vaada Raha, Shastri Sisters, Gupta Brothers ,Saam Daam Dand Bhed, Yeh Teri Galiyan, Kundali Bhagya, Yeh Hai Chahatein, Doree, and Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is currently seen as Saili in the popular daily soap Jamai No. 1. produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah's Studio LSD. Her character, described as “dark, manipulative and layered,” is already stirring curiosity among viewers. Speaking exclusively, Sonal opened up about her experience joining the cast, her prep for playing a negative role, and the kind of characters she still dreams of portraying.
“
“When I first got the call for Jamai No. 1, I was thrilled,” Sonal says. “As an actor, every role presents a new canvas, but this one? This character is a whole new palette of shades—dark, manipulative, layered. It’s exciting to dive into someone with such intensity.”
Talking about her experience working with the ensemble cast, Sonal shares that the on-set environment is full of energy and mutual respect. “From the moment I stepped on set, I could feel the energy shift,” she says with a smile. “The cast has been nothing but welcoming. Everyone is so dedicated—it really elevates your performance when you're surrounded by such passionate artists.”

When it comes to preparing for such morally complex roles, Sonal believes in approaching them with empathy. “I don’t look at negative characters as ‘villains.’ I try to find their reasons, their pain, their truth. I create a backstory for them in my mind—why they are the way they are. That helps me portray their actions with conviction instead of just playing them one-dimensionally,” she explains.
Fashion and styling also play a strong role in building a character’s identity on-screen, and Sonal has noticed how Jamai No. 1 pays attention to the tiniest detail. “Saili’s style is super refreshing,” Sonal admits. “The combination of jeans with jhumkas and layered shrugs gives her such a cool, rooted-yet-modern vibe. It’s so reflective of today’s youth—mixing tradition with a personal twist. And it’s not just visual—style here adds to the storytelling.”
She also highlighted how Jamai No. 1 has mastered the balance between gripping drama and emotional authenticity. “What I personally love about the show is how seamlessly the writers blend everyday domestic drama with high-stakes emotional tension. Every character has their motive. Every look has a layer. It’s not just twists—it’s real emotions, regrets, love and power plays,” Sonal shares.

Looking ahead, the actress hopes to keep reinventing herself. “I’d love to explore roles that are positive. I don’t want to be boxed in,” she says.
As for what’s next in Jamai No. 1, Sonal promises plenty of fireworks. “I won’t reveal what my character does next, but keep watching,” she says with a wink. “The schemes, the betrayals, the confrontations—things are about to explode.”
