Payal Kapadia nominated for All We Imagine As Light at the DGA Awards post losing Golden Globes

Since their remarkable victory at Cannes, Payal Kapadia and her film All We Imagine As Light have been the talk of the town. Both the movie and Payal's directorial prowess have received recognition at various international awards. Despite missing out on the Best Director award at the Golden Globes 2025, Payal has now earned a nomination at the DGA Awards.

The 77th Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards nominations were revealed on January 8, 2025. Payal Kapadia received a nomination for the Michael Apted Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Theatrical Feature Film. All We Imagine As Light represents Payal's first fiction feature.

She will be vying for the award against Megan Park for My Old Ass, RaMell Ross for Nickel Boys, Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel for Armand, and Sean Wang for Dìdi. The winners of the DGA Awards will be disclosed on February 8, 2025.

At the Golden Globes 2025, Payal Kapadia was nominated for Best Director – Motion Picture, and All We Imagine As Light was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. The event occurred on January 5, 2025. Payal was bested by The Brutalist director Brady Corbet in the first category, while Emilia Pérez secured the second category win.

The ensemble cast of All We Imagine As Light features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. The film was both written and directed by Payal Kapadia. This critically acclaimed movie had its premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in 2024, where it clinched the Grand Prix award.

The film has garnered immense praise from global critics and has been nominated and awarded at esteemed venues. It is currently in contention for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
