Here's a chance to experience global entertainment format, live performances and special acts at a cinema hall. Indian multiplex chain PVR Cinemas has launched PVR Live, an international concept of event cinema in the country.

As part of its efforts to give a new cinematic experience, select PVR theatres across 17 cities will showcase live and recorded events. From stand-up comedy shows, music concerts and ballet performances - guests will be able to enjoy a gamut of entertainment on the big screen.

Among the events lined up to be screened are internationally acclaimed choreographer Matthew Bourne's "3D Ballet Swan Lake" and Christopher Wheeldon's "Cinderella - Dutch National Ballet".

For music lovers, concert films of two of the most popular music bands of their times - Queen and One Direction, will be played.

The cinema chain has also associated with the country's comedy collective AIB (All India Backchod) for their act "The Royal Turds" - a spoof Bollywood award show, and Pretentious Nights, the stand-up duo, who have turned the internet into a laugh riot using their reviewing skills.

Officials at PVR are "elated" to bring the "exciting concept of event cinema".

"Through the use of cutting edge technology and ground-breaking formats, we aim to engage audiences with specially recreated versions of some of the hugely popular productions from around the globe," Dharmesh Datta, vice president and head (Alternate Content), PVR Limited, said in a statement.

PVR Cinemas will kick off the initiative for a month starting Sep 12 in Kolkata, Mohali, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Indore, Jalandhar, Kochi, Ludhiana, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, the National Capital Region and Pune.
