'Not strong academically, never had plan B': YRKKH's Rohit Purohit on uncertainty of being an actor

Rohit Purohit, currently seen as Armaan in the ongoing television series Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, in an exclusice chat with India Forums, recently spoke about the uncertainty that comes with a career in acting. Despite being part of one of Hindi television’s longest-running shows, Purohit shared that unpredictability has always been a part of his journey.

In a recent conversation, he said, “Whether it’s about now or when I became a husband, the uncertainty of the acting profession has never really gotten to me.” He explained that he never had an alternative career plan and didn’t consider himself academically inclined. “Maybe because I never had a Plan B. I don’t know how to do anything else. Academically I’m not that strong either, so insecurity or uncertainty—these things were never in my control.”

According to Purohit, uncertainty isn’t unique to the entertainment industry. “Nothing is certain, not even the most secure-looking job. So why treat acting’s uncertainty as something extraordinary? Just keep giving your hundred percent and keep moving forward,” he added.

Earlier speaking to us about embracing fatherhood with wife Sheena, the actor revealed what’s keeping Rohit moving forward these days is the anticipation of becoming a father. His wife Sheena is expecting, and the joy and awe in his voice are unmistakable. “When Sheena and I shared the news on social media, we were overwhelmed with the love and blessings. It felt like the whole world was cheering for us.”

He adds, “I do want to take at least a week off, but it depends on the schedule. Daily soaps don’t leave you with much flexibility. Still, I just want to be there when Sheena goes into labor. I really want to be by her side.”

Rohit describes their bond with their baby in the most tender terms. “We’ve already created this beautiful connection. Around midnight, the baby gets super active. We sing, we talk, and the baby responds—those kicks and punches make it feel so real.”
