This Friday, celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani returned to theatres with his latest directorial offering 'Sanju', which is a biopic on Bollywood cine-star Sanjay Dutt. Toplined by Ranbir Kapoor, the movie opened to great critical acclaim, and just like Hirani's previous films, 'Sanju' too received an overwhelming response from the audience.
We all know that Hirani's films tend to take a little longer time in the making, and 'Sanju' is not an exception. The director and his team spent almost three years on the making of the movie. Since it's a biopic capturing various phases of Sanjay Dutt's life and featuring an ensemble cast, many of us might assume that it must have been the most challenging film of Hirani's career. But does the ace director think the same?
When we asked Hirani if he thinks that 'Sanju' has been the most challenging film of his career, he says, "No, this actually has been much simpler for me to do. The shooting was smooth, there was no problem. It didn't take much time to write up either, because there was enough material."
The 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.' (2003) helmer goes on to add, "'PK' (2014) was the most difficult for me to make, because there was so much to say, and the challenge was to neither sound too preachy nor too frivolous. If you ask me, I am still not very satisfied with the film. I sometimes think I will again make a film like this, but I won't."
Talking about Hirani's next projects, we hear his team is working on a sequel to his 2009 blockbuster '3 Idiots'. The next instalment of the 'Munna Bhai' series is also in the works. It remains to be seen which project mounts the shooting floor first.
