Lately, Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga had been making headlines for his statements regarding Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer. He faced massive backlash for portraying misogynist behavior in the film. But it looks like he has an inclination towards showcasing dark characters on screen as he is back with yet another intense crime thriller, titled Devil and reportedly Ranbir Kapoor has given his nod for the same. However, he was not the first choice for the film as the makers initially wanted to rope Mahesh Babu for the lead role, but he rejected the offer.
“Sandeep Vanga was very keen to work with Mahesh Babu and Mahesh too was interested in working with Vanga. They met and Vanga narrated Devil to Mahesh Babu who found the subject too dark for his taste and for his audience’s taste”, a source told Bollywood Hungama.

Just like Shahid had mentioned that his character in Kabir Singh is his darkest yet, Devil too will mark Ranbir’s darkest character of his career.
Ranbir was approached with Vanga’s upcoming thriller drama and reportedly liked the script too. Mumbai Mirror previously quoted a source as saying, “Ranbir has liked the concept and they will be meeting this week to discuss it further. Of course, even if Ranbir gives the nod, they will not be able to roll immediately because he has to wrap up two films, Brahmastra and Shamshera, first and is committed to a third, Luv Ranjan’s next with Ajay (Devgn), which is being produced by Luv and Bhushan (Kumar, producer).”

Talking of RK’s recent film choices, the actor has been very selective about the scripts he gives his yes for. With his previous few films like Roy, Tamasha and Jagga Jasoos having failed to make big numbers at the box office, the actor was became cautious of the projects he signed up for. However, the phase of dud passed and he delivered an impressive performance as Sanjay Dutt in Raju Hirani’s Sanju. The superstar has two highly anticipated films awaiting its release in the coming year: Ayan Mukherjee's Brahmastra co-starring Alia Bhatt and action-adventure film Shamshera.
Well, if Ranbir confirms his dates for Sandeep Reddy’s Devil, it will be the first time the actor will be seen playing such a dark character on screen. And, it will definitely be worth a watch!
