Often referred to as the blue-eyed boy of television, Nakuul Mehta is all set to make his digital debut opposite Anya Singh with ZEE5’s upcoming web series Never Kiss Your Best friend. The series, as everybody knows is based on Sumrit Sahi’s best-selling novel by the same name.

We got in touch with Nakuul, who spoke about the series , his character and more.

What compelled you to take the series as your digital debut?

It was very simple for me. I did read a lot of scripts before this came through, but I’m just instinctive. If I feel the vibe is good, and I’m also very particular about the people I work with, if I feel their intention is correct, I just say yes. So, this series has come through really well and we had a lot of fun making it. Though, I don’t feel it’s right to call it my digital debut because all the work we do is now available on some web platform.

When a popular book is adapted into a visual format, the expectation of people increases a lot. Was there any pressure?

Well, there wasn’t any kind of pressure on us, the writer must be in the pressure. Also, we have not completely stuck to the book, some things have been changed from the original writing. I’d like to believe we have taken it a notch above than what’s written in the book, and that’s how filmmaking should be.

You have played roles across age groups, did the mindset change?

Well, yes the series oscillates between the present and the past and we, especially I have different looks. In the past scenario, I had to take off my beard and moustache and honestly I felt very liberated when I did that. For me, I find my character in one scene, like it takes that one scene to find your sur, when I found mine in the series, it was a different experience shooting for it.
