Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic "Kalki 2898 AD," starring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, made a splash at the box office last year, leaving fans eager for a sequel. Now, the director has provided a much-anticipated update.
Ashwin's directorial debut, "Yevade Subramanyam," is set for a re-release in theaters. During a recent media interaction celebrating the film's 10th anniversary, he excited fans by revealing details about the "Kalki 2898 AD" sequel. He confirmed that preparations are in full swing and filming is scheduled to begin in December of this year.
Addressing concerns about Prabhas's limited screen time in "Kalki 2898 AD," Ashwin explained that the first part focused on establishing the world and the backstories of Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan). This, he said, was done to set the stage for Karna (Prabhas) in the upcoming sequel, "The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters."
In a previous Instagram Live conversation with Prabhas, Nag Ashwin stated that Part 2 of "Kalki 2898 AD" would take three years to complete. The first installment featured Prabhas as Bhairava, a tough bounty hunter from the dystopian city of Kasi. Amitabh Bachchan played Ashwatthama, Deepika Padukone portrayed SUM-80, a woman carrying a child believed to be the last divine avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki, and Kamal Haasan appeared as Yaskin, the main antagonist.
Meanwhile, Prabhas has a busy schedule ahead. He is set to star in "The Raaja Saab," a romantic horror comedy written and directed by Maruthi, where he plays a triple role alongside Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Sanjay Dutt. The film's release date is yet to be announced. He also has "Fauji", "Spirit" and "Brahmarakshas"in the pipeline.
