Most DISAPPOINTING Films of 2025: Nadaaniyan, Mastiii 4, War 2 and Other Big Letdowns

Here is a closer look at the films that left audiences, critics, and sometimes even fans wondering how things went so wrong in no particular order.

Worst Films of 2025
Worst Films of 2025

2025 will be remembered as a fascinating year for cinema. It was a year where smaller films quietly found their audiences, where a few unexpected titles held their ground at the box office, and where some filmmakers proved that scale does not always dictate impact. Not every success needed thunderous opening numbers, and not every win was about spectacle. There was room for risk, texture, and films that surprised people simply by existing honestly.

And yet, for every pleasant surprise, there was also a collective facepalm moment waiting around the corner. A year stacked with high profile announcements, dream collaborations, legacy sequels, and comeback vehicles inevitably carried expectations. Some films carried the weight of history. Some rode on star power. Some arrived with very little anticipation and still managed to disappoint.

Here is a closer look at the films that left audiences, critics, and sometimes even fans wondering how things went so wrong in no particular order-

Game Changer

After the global success of RRR, Ram Charan returning with a film directed by Shankar felt like an event in itself. On paper, Game Changer looked like a no brainer. A massive star, a filmmaker known for grand ideas, and a promise of scale that suggested something larger than life. At a surface level, it even felt like the kind of collaboration that could dominate conversations for months.

What arrived on screen, however, struggled to justify any of that excitement. The promotional material leaned heavily on expensive CGI laden songs and visuals that felt more loud than effective. Instead of building intrigue, the trailers raised doubts. Once the film released, those doubts only grew stronger.

The storytelling lacked cohesion, the spectacle felt hollow, and the emotional core never quite landed. Game Changer ended up being a disappointment across the board, failing to convert its ambition into something engaging.

Emergency

Kangana Ranaut had a lot riding on Emergency. It marked her second directorial outing after Manikarnika, and it came with clear intent and confidence. A biopic on Indira Gandhi was always going to be scrutinised closely, both creatively and politically. Expectations were understandably high, and the film carried a sense of seriousness from the moment it was announced.

Unfortunately, Emergency unfolded as a largely uninspiring and monotonous experience. While there were moments that briefly hinted at depth or intensity, the film overall felt flat. It leaned heavily into familiar biopic tropes without offering fresh insight or narrative urgency. Despite Kangana’s commitment, the film struggled to hold attention and ended up being remembered more for what it could have been than what it actually was.

Mere Husband Ki Biwi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPDPBU8eVuo&t=1s

On paper, Mere Husband Ki Biwi seemed perfectly positioned to be a breezy romantic comedy. It had a strong cast, a familiar genre, and the promise of lighthearted entertainment. The combination of Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh suggested potential chemistry and comic rhythm.

What the film delivered was surprisingly dull. The romance barely sparked, the comedy rarely landed, and the writing felt curiously restrained. Instead of leaning into its strengths, the film played it safe to the point of being forgettable. The box office response reflected that indifference, making it one of those films that quietly disappeared despite having everything going for it initially.

Nadaaniyan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXTsJKcx_fc&t=3s

If there was one film in 2025 that critics across the board seemed to agree on, it was Nadaaniyan. Starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, the film was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews almost instantly. It did not polarise opinions. It united them, and not in a good way.

From performances to writing to execution, Nadaaniyan was panned on nearly every front. The film lacked conviction and clarity, and the narrative never found its footing. It became an unfortunate example of how launch vehicles can backfire when they rely too heavily on familiarity and too little on substance.

Sikandar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAk5ZCoTWY8&t=4s

A collaboration between A.R. Murugadoss and Salman Khan naturally came loaded with expectations. It was projected as a return to form for Salman Khan, especially after a series of underwhelming outings. The anticipation was not unreasonable. Murugadoss has delivered impactful commercial cinema before, and Salman remains a massive draw.

Sikandar, however, turned out to be another reminder that star power cannot compensate for a lack of vision. The film felt lazy in its construction, with Salman Khan appearing unusually disengaged. Murugadoss seemed uncertain about the tone and direction, resulting in a film that never truly came together. Instead of reigniting excitement, Sikandar extended the conversation around missed opportunities.

Kesari Veer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDAZqAuk5eM&t=1s

Positioned as a major comeback for Sooraj Pancholi, Kesari Veer aimed for scale and gravitas. A period drama with ambition should have been a strong vehicle.

Instead, the film felt rushed and hollow. The storytelling lacked soul, the characters felt underdeveloped, and the emotional beats never landed. Kesari Veer ended up being an epic misfire that failed to justify its scale.

Housefull 5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGQuT1wm2qk&t=6s

The Housefull franchise has never been known for critical acclaim, but Housefull 5 carried a surprisingly interesting premise. A massive ensemble cast stranded on a cruise ship offered endless comedic possibilities. The setup alone suggested chaos, timing based humor, and situational comedy that could have been genuinely entertaining.

What unfolded was the opposite. Crass jokes, relentless objectification, and a complete absence of wit defined the film. The humor felt dated and exhausting rather than playful. Housefull 5 not only failed to make people laugh, it actively tested patience. The box office numbers reflected that fatigue, proving that even established franchises have limits.

Thug Life

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96kAbj3IF3k&list=RD96kAbj3IF3k&start_radio=1

The reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan was easily one of the most exciting announcements of the year. It carried nostalgia, credibility, and the promise of thoughtful cinema backed by experience. Expectations were sky high, and understandably so.

Thug Life turned out to be one of the year’s biggest shocks. The film barely resembled a Mani Ratnam project in spirit or execution. The narrative felt scattered, the tone uncertain, and the emotional weight strangely absent. Kamal Haasan gave it his best, but even his sincerity could not rescue a film that lacked cohesion. Thug Life became a painful example of how even legendary combinations can misfire.

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbCwz-1OHWE&t=1s

As Shanaya Kapoor’s debut, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan carried curiosity. Adding Vikrant Massey to the cast only increased expectations, given his consistent track record. The film had the ingredients for something sensitive and engaging.

Instead, it arrived as a muddled experience with no clear vision. The story felt unsure of itself, oscillating between tones without commitment. There were fleeting moments that hinted at potential, but they were too scattered to leave an impression. In the end, the film failed to make a mark, leaving both its debutante and its talented co star underserved.

War 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjBym9uKth4&t=11s

Few films in 2025 carried as much expectation as War 2. The pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR promised fireworks. As part of YRF’s spy universe, the film was expected to raise the bar both technically and narratively.

What audiences got was a surprisingly hollow spectacle. Studio heavy CGI was painfully obvious, the storyline felt unnecessarily convoluted, and the film leaned heavily on repetition rather than innovation. Instead of expanding the universe meaningfully, War 2 highlighted its creative stagnation. It was not just underwhelming. It was a major misfire.

Baaghi 4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58909OjAfeg&t=3s

By the time Baaghi 4 arrived, the question on many minds was simple. Why another one. The film promised to be bloodier, more brutal, and more unhinged than before. Tiger Shroff going all out sounded intriguing in theory.

In execution, it was exhausting. The acting was weak, the script was incoherent, and the excessive violence did nothing to mask the lack of storytelling. The gore felt performative rather than purposeful. Baaghi 4 ended up being a loud, empty experience with little redeeming value.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9jtbWNAvXc

This was one of the rare cases where box office success and critical response diverged sharply. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat performed well financially, largely riding on Harshvardhan Rane’s recent popularity and the renewed love for Sanam Teri Kasam.

Creatively, however, the film was difficult to defend. It leaned heavily into cringe territory, with questionable narrative choices and an overall B grade sensibility. While audiences showed up, the film left many wondering why.

Mastiii 4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m43HC9T9YM8&t=39s

If there was one recurring theme in 2025, it was that fourth installments struggled. Mastiii 4 followed the disappointing reception of Great Grand Masti, and yet somehow managed to sink even lower. The jokes felt outdated, the adult comedy lacked sharpness, and the performances were uniformly hammy.

Despite the presence of actors like Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi, the film failed to find rhythm or relevance. It felt like a franchise stuck in the past, unable to evolve with its audience.

Sarzameen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtcJqU10ElU

Sarzameen had a promising premise and the potential to be impactful. Unfortunately, strong ideas on paper did not translate to the screen. The execution was shoddy, the narrative confused, and the emotional weight diluted.

It also marked another disappointing outing for Ibrahim Ali Khan, making it a rough year for the actor.

Honourable Mentions

Kannapa arrived with starry cameos and promise but never truly took off. Akhanda 2 aimed for loud fun but ended up being loud without the fun. L2: Empuraan was not a terrible film, but as a sequel to a beloved predecessor, it struggled to justify its existence.

Some might argue that films like Badass Ravikumar or Loveyapa deserve a spot here. For many, though, those films were oddly more tolerable than the ones listed above. And I haven't seen Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri to have an opinion to include in the list, as many have panned the film in general.

In a year that proved cinema can still surprise and connect, these films served as reminders that ambition without clarity often leads to disappointment.
