Mamta Kulkarni has taken sanyas at the Mahakumbh Mela 2025. The actress is now a Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada. As we know, spiritual groups like the Naga Sadhus and Sadhvis are known by their Akhadas. Laxmi Narayan Tripathi who is an activist of transgender community is also a part of the Kinnar Akhada. The term Mahamandaleshwar means a revered religious head of a definite monastery or order. It is also given to Dashanami saints in Hinduism. Mamta Kulkarni arrived at Prayagraj on Friday and praised the organization of the Kumbh Mela. She also did Tarpan and Pind Daan of her late parents. It seems she was not in Mumbai when they passed away.
The actress is back in the country after 12 years. She was embroiled in the drug case with Indian Kenyan gangster Vicky Goswami. Later, she got a clean chit from them. Mamta Kulkarni admitted that she was in a relationship with him but denied any know-how of his drug business. Mamta Kulkarni did not keep in touch with anyone in the past 12 years. The actress said she did not apply any makeup nor did she visit a parlour.
Mamta Kulkarni said that detachment was needed to purse a path of spirituality. She said he will take a bath in the Ganges on Mauni Amavasya. The actress also has plans to visit the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and Kashi Vishwanath. She said she has no intentions of ever making a comeback in Bollywood. Now, Mamta will be known as Mamta Nand Giri. The term Giri is associated with the Giri Math. It means a monastery on top of a hill. This is the Dashanami sect of Hinduism as founded by Adi Shankaracharya.
The actress was away for 12 years when she did not watch any movie, or kept in touch with anyone. She was one of the top leading ladies of the 90s.
