On Friday, Slumdog Millionaire actor Madhur Mittal has been granted anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case filed against him by his ex girlfriend.
Speaking of the same, the actor expresses his belief in the Indian legal system. Madhur told SpotboyE,
“At last after weeks of unimaginable turmoil and stress for me and my family, I was granted anticipatory bail today in the first hearing itself. I am feeling so much better. It makes me believe in the legal system of our country.”
While this comes as a big relief, Madhur hopes that his career is not affected after this incident. The actor had rose to fame with his performance of Salim in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, playing Dev Patel’s elder brother.
“Before all this happened I was getting at least a couple of audition calls every day. Now they’ve stopped. I just don’t want my work to suffer. Otherwise, my conscience is clear.”
Madhur Mittal’s ex partner had accused him of sexual harassment. Based on the woman’s complaint, Khar police had booked Mittal under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (use of criminal force to disrobe a woman), 354(D) (stalking) and 509 (words or gestures intending to insult the modesty of any woman).
Fearing arrest, Madhur had approached the court for anticipatory bail. In his plea, he claimed that after the breakup, the complainant wanted to stay in the same house to share the rent but he refused which made her angry.
After hearing the plea by both the sides, additional sessions judge SP Agarwal granted the anticipatory bail to the actor.
