In the latest rollercoaster ride of laughter on Koffee With Karan Season 8, the ever-charismatic Karan Johar spilled the beans on an uproarious incident from the past involving the heartthrobs of Bollywood, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan. As the trio delved into the archives of their careers, KJo reminisced about the time when the dynamic duo was on the brink of being sent packing from the sets of the iconic film, My Name Is Khan.
Before stepping into the limelight with their debut in Student Of The Year, Varun and Sidharth wore the hats of assistant directors under Karan Johar's watchful eye in My Name Is Khan. The setting was a foreign location, but the budding actors seemed to have found more than just professional engagements within the costume department. With a mischievous grin, KJo revealed, "You (Varun) were engaged with an Indian girl, and you (Sid) were engaged with a foreign girl in the department. Engaged, I’m using a very polite word to say what you were doing."
The plot thickened when Karan Malhotra, the film's chief assistant and now acclaimed director of Shamshera, approached KJo with a peculiar request. "Can we send two people home? Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra because they’re distracting the costume department," he implored. The reason? Both heartthrobs were entangled in what can only be described as 'steamy affairs.'
Adding fuel to the already blazing banter, Varun Dhawan took the opportunity to turn the tables on KJo. Playfully inquiring about the filmmaker's chauffeur and hinting at a supposed affair, the laughter-filled exchange continued to escalate.
As the conversation took a delightful trip down memory lane, Sid and Varun reminisced about KJo's peculiar diet regimen during the shoot. According to the duo, Karan Johar used to "starve" Alia Bhatt and them, with Varun cheekily stating, "He was not letting us eat. He had very rationed food coming over. There were no carbs. I remember you (Sidharth) were so dehydrated twice." Sidharth chimed in, labeling the experience as "child labor."
The episode unfolded into a riot of laughter, unraveling amusing anecdotes and shedding light on the camaraderie shared by these Bollywood stalwarts.
