Kim Soo-Hyun has been the topic of global headlines after the whole scandal involving the death of Kim Sae-Ron. The actress had died on February 15, which coincided with the Queen Of Tears actor’s birthday. Both of them were under the same agency Gold Medalist. An independent YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute (HoverLab) claimed that a lady (known as aunt) to Kim Sae-Ron had told him that Kim Sae-Ron died due to financial pressures created by Gold Medalist who wanted 700,000 KRW back as debt repayment when she was out of work. It seems she had tried to reach out to Kim Soo-Hyun but he ignored her calls and messages.
He also revealed the shocking truth that Kim Soo-Hyun and Kim Sae-Ron dated for six long years. As per the channel, he dated her from the time she was 15, and he was close to 30. This left netizens disgusted as it seemed like he had groomed her. Kim Soo-Hyun has staunchly denied dating her when she was a minor. He said that they dated after she turned 19, which has been hotly contested by Garo Sero by a number of apparent evidences that are now disposed in court of law.
The timeline of this case means that Kim Soo-Hyun has no criminal liability as the age of consent in Korea was 13 when this happened. It was later raised to 18. Now, a petition named Kim Soo-Hyun Prevention Act was circulated online to prevent children/adolescents from falling prey to groomers. It demands that age of consent be increased to 19, and the statutory punishment for having sexual relationship with underage partners be increased to five years. As per social media, it has got 50K signatures, which means it can be presented in National Assembly.
However, as per fans of Kim Soo-Hyun there is no such petition on any public forum in South Korea. Lawmakers have said that the actor has taken the right approach in this matter, and people want to hear from the Court soon.
