Kim Soo-Hyun has been in the centre of a storm since March 10 after it was alleged that he dated an underage Kim Sae-ron. The Bloodhounds actress’ dead body was found at her home in Seoul on February 16, 2025. On March 10, Kim Si Eui of Garosero Research Institute released a video where he alleged that Kim Soo-Hyun and Kim Sae-ron dated for six years from 2015 to 2021. Going by calculations, it would have been since the time she was apparently 15. This resulted in unimaginable backlash and hate for the actor. He was called names like paedophile, groomer, criminal and what not based on that accusation. Some evidence about the relationship came out in form of Kakao talk chat screenshots, photos and videos.
Two months down the line, it has turned out that a ‘crucial’ evidence looks AI fabricated. Also, claims of the actor allegedly sending assailants behind informers in the US were debunked as consulates confirmed that there was no such incident involving Korean nationals in the US. The public anger was now directed at Garosero Research Institute. A petition to ban Ga Seyeon has touched 50K. This comes ahead of the presidential elections on June 3. Many have said that Garosero is a supporter of Yoon Yuk Seol and this entire Kim Soo-Hyun controversy was staged to distract people.
Netizens have noted how Garosero also had a role to play in 2023 when Parasite actor Lee Sun-kyun was being investigated on drug charges. He made a lot of claims on his channel which were proved false later on. Lee Sun-kyun died by suicide in December 2023 leaving behind two young children. There is a demand to stop such cyber bullying in South Korea given how idols, actors, singers and even normal people are affected. Lee Jae Myung who is one of the presidential candidates has also said he will end cyber violence if his party comes into power.
